The Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund
Our organization works to support research at Brigham and Women's Hospital through sponsorships and donations. Participating in our golf tournament has become a great way for sponsors to come together and show their support for this important cause.
The Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILD) group at Brigham and Women's, together with the family of Christopher J. Spilios has created a special research fund that will help find a cure for Pulmonary Fibrosis. In addition, the David E. Herlihy Sr. family has created a patient registry to capture key clinical data from patients with chronic lung disease in order to facilitate further research in Pulmonary Fibrosis and other chronic lung diseases. Ongoing funding is needed to expand this research.
Funds raised from the Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund Golf Tournament
will be used to continue to build this registry and ensure that the ILD group has the infrastructure to maintain the costs of the
database and to collect and store samples critical to the study of pulmonary fibrosis. This research will increase our understanding of
pulmonary fibrosis to help in the design of clinical trials and ultimately find an effective treatment for pulmonary fibrosis.
Our Founder: Missed and Remembered Every Day
The Pulmonary Fibrosis Research Fund was founded by Chris Spilios to raise awareness and funds to help support Pulmonary Fibrosis Research at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He worked tirelessly on the "Let's Tee It Up" golf event that has successfully raised thousands of dollars for PF research.
Chris passed away on March 30, 2014, with his loving family by his side, at Brigham and Women's Hospital after his own ongoing battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Known as "Chip" by his close friends and family, he was an avid golfer and long-time member of Brae Burn Country Club, in West Newton, MA. and of The Wianno Club in Osterville, MA. He was an active parishioner of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, and served as an Archon of The Ecumenical Patriarchate of The Greek Orthodox Church. Chris was also the President of Crown Uniform & Linen Service, a fourth generation family business that Chris proudly operated with his brother, Arthur, nephew, Plato, and son, George.
If you would like to make a donation in memory of Chris please make your check payable to Brigham and Women's Hospital and include Chris Spilios - Pulmonary Fibrosis RF
